Tech Issues (Computers and PS3)

Ok, so it's been a long time since I've written a post here.  This doesn't mean I have not been blogging though.  A few months ago I started a blog about HTC phone over at www.htcsource.com .  But that's not why I'm writing today.

Since Christmas, the Gray household has been having some tech issues.  Most people who know me, kinda think of me as a tech nerd.  I get call from friends I have not heard from in months some times and all they want to know is why their computer or electronic gadget is not working.  Rachel says I have a magic touch or presence.  Whenever something is not working right on a computer or a high tech cell phone, I simply repeat the same steps someone just did and things magically just work.  This hasn't been the case lately.

On Christmas morning after (when we had Alicia, Chris, and my parents over) our home computer decided it wanted to break.  After repeated attempts to start the Acer Aspire ASL100 (nice compact desktop computer the size of a laptop), my brother and I figured the motherboard probably died.  Since we had purchased the computer less than a year earlier, I was able to send it in and get it fixed for free.  Acer turnaround time of the repair was actually quite shorter than I have expected.  Within 10 days of shipping out the Aspire ASL100, it was returned to us in working condition.  After a few days though, things started going down hill.  The blue screen of death started making a regular appearance on a daily basis.  Soon, the blue screen of death would appear if the computer was on fir more than 5 minutes.  Some quick research and we figured out what the problem was.  I seemed as though one of the 512MB RAM sticks was bad.

This was a good excuse for me to upgrade the system RAM from 1024MB to 2048MB which is great since most people know that Windows Vista is a complete memory hog and likes to run slow on 1024MB of RAM.  So after getting the new RAM and installing it yesterday afternoon I thought it would be a great idea to connect my PS3 which I got for Christmas with my computer so I could stream all my media files downstairs to the living room.

For those of you who don't know this, the PS3 is a great media streamer and allows you to access all your pictures, mp3's and video file you have saved on your home computer and watch them on your TV.  Only problem is, my computer will not recognize the PS3 on my home network.  While the Acer ASL100 was out for repairs I had connected the PS3 with our old home computer which we no longer use.  But for some reason Windows Vista (which is supposed to set up home networks with just a few click and be able to see all wireless devices) does not like my PS3.

It seems this year is going to be a tough tech year for me! computers breaking, PS3 not connecting to my network, what's next?  At least my HTC touch is working fine.  I usually don't ask for tech help, but if there's anyone reading this that may know how to help out, I'd love to hear from you.
