valentines day recap

i need to step it up when it comes to valentines day….nick always wins. he has the best presents and plans. maybe it’s because the things i want aren’t phones, computers and other gadgets that don’t fit the budget. he did a great job again this year.

he bought me an orchid! i’ve been wanting one for years, but afraid to buy one since i’m a plant killer. this one is gorgeous and is the perfect addition to our home, so i need to take extra special care of it. apparently the kind i have is the easiest to grow indoors. *whew*

after i gasped at the orchid on the table, i opened a bag with a garlic press inside. i had told him surprises and presents for me can be simple things “like the garlic press we need”. he said a garlic press isn’t a present. not the kind he wants to give anyway. but he gave it as a joke.

then he tricked me into thinking the orchid was leaking water. i went to check…and pearls were hiding in the pot! a freshwater pearl bracelet!

that night he surprised me with dinner at {mission american kitchen} downtown. decent food, but probably not worth the price. we’d never been before so i was excited, but had better food elsewhere. not sure we’ll be back.

the last surprise of the night was to see RENT. i had hoped that’s what we were doing. i saw ads on bus stops a few months back and had given nick {the info}, but didn’t know if it was enough of a hint. guess it was!

the show was incredible. i laughed. i cried. i sang along in my head to every song. my only regret is that we didn’t get there early enough for closer seats. but it’s a very very minor regret.

my favorite actor was harley wood who played roger. his voice was phenomenal! i may need to check out a show with his band {far from falling} that plays in the area. but the other actors were all pretty good. remember paris bennett from american idol a few years ago?  she was in the chorus and her mom played joanne. those two ladies can SING! the only one i didn’t like was the guy who played collins. eh. he was just average compared to the rest of them, but still good.

the show is playing through the end of this month. if you like RENT or rock music and theater, you should see it. {website here}.

so yeah, nick wins. i just bought him a pair of shoes and a wallet. next year i’ll have to plan dinner and the date. hmmm….  good thing i have an entire year to prepare.
